The new museum for Furniture, Culture and Art was placed on the former site of a clothing manufacturer in Herford. The complex is composed of different elements, the largest new building being an exhibition hall with 1,200 m². The former manufacturing building, shielded by a semi-transparent metal screen, connects the different parts of the complex. Two further new buildings contain the administration, conference rooms and a cafeteria.

Based on precise 3-dimensional data, all components for the sculptural steel structure of the roof were CNC-fabricated. CNC-milled stainless steel panels were mounted like overlapping shingles on the secondary structure of the double-curved lattice shell. The manufacturing of the complex formwork for the curved reinforced concrete walls was also based on CAD-data and subsequently insulated and cladded with clinker on the exterior.
