Until the Second World War, the city of Frankfurt was famous for its water view of the river Main. Its crowning was the construction of the City Library in 1825 by the architect Johann Christian Hess. During the war, the library was almost completely destroyed - apart from its porticus.
The reconstruction of the city library to accommodate the Frankfurt house of literature is therefore of great importance to the city as a whole.
