The new Expo Centre is located on a site of 13 hectares in the Chartres suburban area; the surrounding landscape inspired the architect in the design of the project. In plan, the site is organized in “cells” which are organized around the main building measuring 149m x 126m and consisting of 12000m² of interior exhibition spaces, 5000m² exterior spaces and a large parking. The building is divided into three exhibition halls, a main entrance with a roof terrace which accommodates a panoramic restaurant, and officesThe halls are flexiblein use and vary in size to form one large unique space or three individual halls that can operate simultaneously and independently.
The building envelope is made of architectural precast concrete and expresses through this material the continuity and fluidityof the project. The construction consists of a long span steel structure that enables to free up the 12,000m² main space from any intermediate columns. The objective of this complex structure is to combine a high structural and economic efficiencyto the very specific geometry of the project.
