The city of Bochum has restructured the station forecourt with its central bus station. The Essen architectural office Heinrich Böll Architekten was responsible for the project planning. Bollinger+Grohmann was responsible for the structural design of the roof construction including foundation.
The roofing consists of a steel frame structure with clamped supports and so-called "swords" with sheet metal/glass covering. The swords are connected to the supports by a circumferential main beam with rectangular cross-section. The roof cantilevers approx. 5.25 m outwards from the main girder. The roof surface in the area of the swords consists of a linearly mounted glazing with maximum 16 mm thick laminated safety glass. In the area of the cantilever arm, the upper and lower roof surfaces consist of a metal sheet.
