Facts Length: 110 m | Width: 6.4 m

The 110-metre-long footbridge spans the River Leie and a number of adjacent (service) roads via four spans. A firm decision was made to use a solid timber substructure; the continuous girders are made from sustainable European timber. Furthermore, special attention has been paid to precise detailing. For instance, the timber structure is well protected by a bridge deck comprising high-strength concrete panels. Ventilation is possible between the two. The curvature in the alignment is accommodated by the approach ramps, allowing the bridge to be constructed in a straight line. The piers are constructed from concrete to ensure robustness.

The width of 5.5 metres provides a generous link between the Vissersdijk and the Rinkkaai housing project. Slopes ensure that the entire bridge blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings. The design has been devised to minimise the impact on the surrounding area, for example, by felling as few trees as possible.
