This transformation breathes new life into the historic Den Bell building's surroundings, turning what was once a paved, triangular courtyard atop an underground car park into a lush, climate-adaptive urban garden. Commissioned by the city of Antwerp and AG Vespa in 2021, the intervention introduces 31% more greenery, drastically reducing hard surfaces and enhancing biodiversity with trees, shrubs, and a pergola draped in climbing plants.

The design retains key circulation paths while weaving in more organic, meandering routes that invite people to explore and engage with the planting. At the entry to the underground bike park, a new multi-sports field replaces the former basketball and kick areas. Nearby, a paved event space under the pergola provides a setting for local gatherings and community use.
