At the Frankfurt xScale Data Centre FR2.6, operated by Equinix GmbH, a temporary cable structure will be installed on an existing steel frame that connects to the building's hall. A green façade using the VERD° product system from OMC°C will be attached to this cable structure. The additional façade greening with VERD° aims to support the development of a façade-bound module that can be universally attached to existing buildings. The goal is to minimise the number of horizontal fixing points typically required on façades and to avoid penetration points in the building envelope whenever possible. Furthermore, additional loads on the structure at the top and bottom points should be kept as low as possible.
During the initial development phase, various structural systems were considered and analysed as part of a comparative study. In the present project, the design team developed a kinematic cable system that relies solely on the planting trough's self-weight for stabilisation.
