The refurbishment of the recooling system at the GALERIA Kaufhof store in Hanau involved removing and disposing of the existing recooling unit on the roof and dismantling the chillers and refrigeration pipes in the basement. The project also included installing a new recooling unit on the roof and a new refrigeration unit in the basement.

A mobile crane removed the existing recooling unit from the roof. The building services were then dismantled and reassembled. The substructure in the delivery area was assembled in one piece and lifted onto the roof using a mobile crane. The roof was opened up in the area of the support feet and reworked before the substructure was installed. Finally, a second mobile crane was used to lift the new recooling unit, weighing approximately 5.5 tonnes, onto the pre-assembled substructure. Once the chillers were installed in the basement, the commissioning process began. The project's primary focus from a health and safety perspective was on fall protection on the roof, lifting heavy loads, construction during ongoing operations, and the proper disposal of hazardous substances (refrigerant R22).
