During the refurbishment of the recooling system at the GALERIA Kaufhof shop in Landau, the existing recooling unit on the roof and the recooling unit on the 6th floor, including refrigeration pipes, were replaced. The old units had to be dismantled and removed. It was particularly challenging to dismantle the 5-tonne old unit using a mobile crane through an opening on the roof from the 6th floor. The new 7-tonne recooling unit also had to be brought in through this installation opening above the roof. The building's height of approximately 26 metres and a canopy on the delivery side of the department store had to be bridged with the boom of the mobile crane.

The demolition of the existing steel substructure and the concrete foundation, as well as the transport of the demolition material out of the building, were also relevant in terms of safety. As the goods lift only travelled up to the sixth floor, an interim measure had to be put in place to bridge the last floor to the roof. The new substructure, weighing 600 kg, also had to be transported through the building. To erect the substructure of the new recooling unit, the roof structure in this area was dismantled and resealed. Subsequently, the new unit was connected, and the roof was completely resealed. From a health and safety standpoint, the main focus of the work was on fall protection on the roof in the area of the installation opening, lifting heavy loads, construction during ongoing operation, and the disposal of hazardous substances (refrigerant R22).
