The Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design (MADD Bordeaux) has recently reopened following three years of extensive renovation. The project reconnects two historically distinct buildings, the 18th-century Hôtel de Lalande and a former 19th-century prison, into a coherent museum ensemble adapted for contemporary use. Led by Antoine Dufour Architectes, with Pierre Dufour as chief architect of historical monuments, the intervention carefully balances heritage preservation with functional upgrades.

The renovation includes the reorganisation of exhibition spaces, improved accessibility through the integration of new vertical circulation, and the introduction of updated technical and environmental strategies.

Our mission focused on the design and engineering of window systems and large-scale opening elements. This notably includes a custom-designed vertical guillotine door measuring approximately 7 × 3 metres and weighing around 2.2 tonnes. The fully glazed panel operates via a counterweight system. It is manually controlled via a discreet handwheel, allowing controlled movement despite its mass while maintaining minimal visual impact on the façade (made by Coveris).
