The white, classicist ribbon characterised the northern bank of the Main "An der Schönen Aussicht" until the Second World War. The elegant promenade was completed with the construction of the City Library in 1825 by the architect Johann Christian Hess. During the war, the library was almost completely destroyed - apart from its porticus.

The building has been extensively renovated and includes a ground floor, upper floor, mezzanine, attic, and a full basement. The structure features solid construction with reinforced concrete ceilings supported by load-bearing walls, some of which are made of masonry and others of reinforced concrete, as well as load-bearing reinforced concrete columns.
