The 2012 UEFA European Football Championship was hosted jointly by Poland and the Ukraine. Based on that an architectural competition took place in 2007. The joint venture of RKW - Rhode Kellermann Wawrowsky Architects and B+G was awarded the first prize.

Through transparency, lightness and amber colored luminance the stadium becomes a significant landmark. The structural performance was achieved by the combination of two efficient supporting systems - a convex shell which is acting as a façade supported by a frame. The 82 girder on the outer side are connected by the façade structure to form an integrated structure similarly to the ship-building industry methods.
