The so-called Philosophicum of the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Universität in Frankfurt is a listed building. B+G was in charge of a feasibility study for a possible conversion into a residential building. The building captivates through its generosity and clarity.

The structure consists of a steel construction which is partly visible and partly embedded. In this study, the aspects of energy, thermal and sound insulation plus fire protection played a key role. Here, on the one hand, it was necessary to assess the impact of the remaining heat bridges, to investigate the possibilities of their reduction and, on the other hand, to ensure appropriate air tightness for many internal penetrations. Another aspect was the fire protection, which was proven during the former planning on the basis of a model with one-sided flame treatment.
