Within the Berlin School Construction Offensive (BSO) framework, which was launched in 2017, the now-completed schools in modular timber construction have proven to be trend-setting. This applies not only to shorter planning and construction times and the ecological footprint but also to the high acceptance of the users. Due to the continuing high demand for new school places, ten more timber-compartment schools with sports halls and modular open spaces are now being built. The first location in Berlin-Mahlsdorf is anticipated to open for the 2025/2026 school year, and several additional sites are already under construction.
The project is being planned and executed with NKBAK, PCB-Architekten, ECOTEC, and "schöne Aussichten" as ARGE HOCOMP Berlin.
The three-story buildings with flat roofs are composed of different individual modules and supplemented by corridor areas and an open, double-height cafeteria, which is also planned in timber construction. Wall and ceiling elements made of cross-laminated timber, along with beams and columns constructed from glulam or laminated veneer lumber, are intended as load-bearing components.
