Schwedlerbrücke: Lift-In

On 31 October 2026, the new 68-metre-long northern part of the Schwedlerbrücke was successfully lifted into place. The 160-tonne steel truss structure, consisting of 312 individually fabricated members, was positioned on the bridge’s historic concrete piers dating back to 1907. The lifting operation presented significant technical challenges. An underground canal prevented the main crawler crane from being positioned closer to the bridge, requiring a carefully coordinated operation involving four cranes.

The installation marks a major milestone in the first construction phase of the historic pedestrian bridge, which has been closed for 15 years and connects Frankfurt’s Ostend district with Ostpark. With the northern section nearing completion, the second construction phase, involving the refurbishment of the southern section, is expected to be awarded in spring 2027.

Together with Mäckler Architekten, we won the interdisciplinary design competition and were subsequently commissioned with the object planning and structural engineering.
