Completion: Carl Pforzheim

With its 14 stories, the Carl Tower is currently the tallest timber-hybrid residential high-rise in Southern Germany. Recently completed, the project was developed for Baugenossenschaft Arlinger eG and designed by Peter W. Schmidt Architekten. It marks the western entrance to Pforzheim and includes the tower and two additional four- and six-story residential buildings. The development features 73 rental apartments, a daycare center, and a bakery on the ground floor. B+G was responsible for the structural engineering.

The tower features a timber-concrete composite construction of cross-laminated timber elements and reinforced concrete supported by timber columns. The ceilings span from a central reinforced concrete core to the outer façade. For fire safety and structural reasons, the ground floor and two adjacent residential buildings are built entirely in reinforced concrete.
