The new museum will be located on the historic dry docks, playing a key role in the ongoing revitalisation of the northern edge of the city centre. It will focus on Antwerp’s rich maritime heritage, which has long been integral to the city's identity. The area will be transformed into a green public park, serving as a link between the heart of the city and the bustling port along the 'De Schelde' river. This striking industrial site will be reimagined as a vibrant cultural hub for maritime-related activities, featuring nine dry docks and two significant historic buildings once used for heavy machinery workshops. Additionally, a new visitor centre for the Antwerp Harbour will be built here. The existing buildings will house maritime collections, office spaces for the port authority, as well as facilities for various youth organisations and dining establishments.
